  1. People pay for their whims so why not fly into space. I think it's a beautiful thing to travel up there. So now we are traveling to the glory of conquering another country in south America or the next holiday on the mediterranean coast is boring or mainstream bluntly. I do not know about anyone else but for me it is a journey into the unknown thing for which it is worth living. If I had excess cash I'd probably already in the queue or endurance tests before this trip. Flight into space is a fulfillment of a dream, I used to want to go to Chernobyl. I put a couple of thousand per trip, I found these other fools like me, and I went. The trip was dangerous but the memories are unforgettable. Today I can say that it was the trip of my life for this moment.
It does not matter that someone earns, so that we feel that we live in :)

  3. I think the space tourism will be a very good business in the future. Lots of people would like to fly to space to see a view which not everyone can behold and experience an amazing adventure. Even only preparations and basic training must be incredible. Nowadays, this kind of trip is really expensive for the average man in the street, telling the truth probably only a few people in Poland have extra money for that purpose. $200.000 means much more than half a milion polish zloty. In the future of course the situation will get better, but space traveling remains a luxury only for the rich.
If I were a rich woman, I would buy with pleasure the space trip, actually I would like to have a spacecraft like in The Jetsons to fly on moon shopping :)
I think it is a new kind of entertainment, addictionally connected with high technology which is not fully tested (for example regular airlines planes are tested milions times a year), so it is more than possible that the disasters will occur. However, because of small amount of participants, victims will be relatively few. As usual, much more will die on polish roads during one long weekend :(

  4. I think space tourism is great business! Most of todays SF films take place in space (star wars, star trek, doctor who) or are related to
alien civilization ( for example the avengers ) so people are fascinated in such travels :) Now it is only a few minutes in non gravitation environment,
but I think in the future there will be more atractions.

If I were rich I would donate such companies or create one.

About safety, come on! People die every day on Earth in stupid way: car accidents, alcohol poisoning, and such.
If you could even die in space, but before that see things like http://hubblesite.org/gallery/wallpaper/ would you have any doubts?

I agree with s10047 - many more will die in this weekend than during space travel. People are afraid new things, and forget "routine things" kills more. (for example flu)

  5. Actually, what can we read about in that presentation isn't really tourism. Traveling for few minutes on the edge of the earths atmosphere is more of a sightseeing. I'm surprised author didn't mention Elon Musk's efforts to make actual space tours with his company SpaceX, he's planning tours to other planets like Mars and they have some basic space achievements already. Few weeks ago they successfully send own rocket with cargo to ISS and returned to earth, which is pretty astonishing for a private company, in case anyone was interested here's more on that topic.

Generally speaking I like the idea of space tourism and overall space exploration, in few centuries we may be able to discover other planets like Magellan new lands.

  6. Space tourism is like a ferbere egg which everyone wants to touch and own. I believe that space tourism will be a very profitable business in the future when the likes of an Average Joe would be able to afford it. It it a similar scenario to flying now with the introduction of low-budget airlines. In my opion,it will be very popular among young people as something new and exciting. As for near future,I believe that space tourism will remain a project still on the paper which requires lots of research and money.
Personally, I would love to be one of the passengers on the Lynx when they launch the flights in 2014,however,only if I had the money to spend. I would not invest my lifetime savings into something so innovative and one-off experience.
Looking at the safety aspects,I do think that it is safe. This is such a risky and expensive project, hence, safety needs to be a priority.

  7. In my opinion when it comes to space tourism is very extreme, and extremely expensive tourism. It is worth noting that people flying into space to be completely healthy, which means that even if someone really wanted and dreamed about it, not having health will not be able to afford something like that, unfortunately. However, the lack of health is not the only obstacle, not everyone can afford something like this, so this is the offer directed towards one group of customers, namely those who are extremely rich. It's sad, because not everyone has that opportunity.
Is it a profitable business? Certainly, without a doubt, and why? That's why they stay in space even for a moment is certainly a very exciting and it is an unforgettable experience.

  8. In my opinion space tourism might become a good business in the future but I would not be that convinced that it will be near future. Nowadays space tourism is available for the people mentioned in the presentation i.e. Angelina Jolie or Ashton Kutcher (who have already scheduled their flights). Those are very wealthy people who can afford to book that kind of attraction. I am afraid that in the future it will turn out to be an indicator of people’s social status- they will be respected or not accordingly to the fact whether or not they have been sent to space most distant from the Earth. I hope it will not work that way but the celebrities who go there already advertise this kind of tourism as something which is unavailable for earthlings so that it encourages a lot of people and makes them dream about a journey in space as about something uncanny to experience. However, as long as only the wealthiest people afford it, there is no danger for people who just dream about it. Since we do not have sufficient incomes, we are not able to do anything but dreaming which is actually good because until the space is not discovered any deeper, people should not be sent there as this is not a safe way of travelling. Once you fly there, you never know what can happen to you when the gravitational force is not acting on your body in an usual way and there might be no return. I do not think this is worth our life.

  9. I think that space business could be a very good idea, but not at the moment. Perhaps in the future, more and more people would be interested in traveling to outer space. Right now, it's just too expensive for most of us and it's not the only issue - there are other things that should be taken into consideration, such as health problems and being scared of heights. Although, I've recently heard about a man who would like to propose to his girlfriend in outer space and I think is very romantic :)

  10. Would I pay $50,000 for space trip even if I have to save money for 5 years or more? Definately yes. Would you?

In my humble opinion this experience is worth my money and my work. It's one of my big dreams.

I think there are a lot of people who thinks like me, there are a lot of people who don't have to sacrifice to pay $50k for this adventure, so demand is huge.

They earn 60% on each person (assuming that trip costs $20k per person and people pay $50k) - it's a huge profit.

The most important thing for space trip companies is to be first. The first player takes the biggest piece of cake and biggest money. When there is no competition the earnings are much much bigger.

  11. I agree with Piotr Dębosz if there were some other companies which could compete, for sure prices and whole trips would be better :)
We have to wait for it to happen and save money :)

  12. Space turism is a great investment pick. Many celebrities can afford 20 000 dollars pair of shoes. Why not spend this money on a space trip? It coluld even indicate our social status in the future.
If I were rich I would go for it without thinking! I would love to actually understand how small I am in a scale of Universe. It definitely isn't more dangerous than most of extreme sport.

  13. ... and i don't wanna miss a thing... i must say, i would definitely like to be a space tourist but not yet my friends, not yet. I am really glad that rich people wants to help us, get out of here. They have paid money for their flights, but really, they have paid for the development of this new technology. That's good for all of us, otherwise there would be no one to pay for it. This is definitely a perfect business, especially for founders but if these companies and their founders will be not only business minded, but also science minded, this could bring us really good hard step forward and open the space's gate for humanity. As i read Your comments, i see that everyone would like to go to space, but i have to point out, that it is our human nature, our curiosity to reach for unseen and unnamed. I hope, the program of the flight is really as fantastic as it sounds, otherwise no one will fly again :-) If anyone of these famous people would say anything bad like "it was boring", "not so exciting because we couldn't do most of the things we wanted" etc, this could be the end of the beggining. And then we will land hard on the earth's ground, because we more trust our earthy stars then these stars in the sky, above our heads. Even more stupid would be if some of these famous people, would take money for not saying bad words about the journey haha...

  14. Who from us as a child wouldn't like to be even for a while in cosmos? Everyone, but now when we are smarter than a child we are thinking about safety and costs of this type of journeys. I think the space tourism will be a very good business in about ten to fifteen years and cost might be around $50 000. As we read 80 000 peoples registered to take a flight with Virgin Galactics, suprising is that they paid for this flight before the first flight test. This situation shows, that it will be very popular direction of traveling in next years.

As a child and now I would like to be in universe even for a while. I don't care about safety of space tourism, because I want to be in a space. The view and feeling of weightless are covering my fear of space tourism.

  15. Space flight in the future will be good business, bringing huge profits, but it will be directed to the rich. For one it will be a fulfillment of dreams snobbish, and for others the opportunity to learn and develop their impressions and the transfer of knowledge to others. Personally flight in space is not my dream, and I think at the moment that they are dangerous. I like to travel and I would rather get to know more places on Earth that are more accessible for me.

  16. It's fun to dream about the travels into space. Swing in the clouds is what I like to do when I have a free moment ... and later comes to reality. I wish that such flights in the future were at a similar price as airplane flight across the world.
I wonder when we colonized other planets. Maybe even in our time we will choose to ski on Mars or exploring other planets destroyed by bombardment of meteorites.

Our technology goes fast forward. In the last 200 years we have made great progress in technology. We created the first aircraft, we started to fly on the ocean, creating spaceships and satellites. I wonder what will now be invented?

What is interesting, and to be honest it is not a surprise to me, most of the new technology is first created for the military and later only when tested in battle are adapted to the civilian market. This was the Internet and space technologies which were originally used by the army to seek to achieve military superiority and information on opponents.

I am very curious to which way we develop as humans and how we use technology in the future.

When I think about the topic of space flights, technological progress and of all the things I start to think if there is anyone in the universe who has already done it before. Are we alone? If we were truly alone then why such a large undeveloped space? It seems to me that somewhere there must be other life that also strives for continuous excellence - just like us.
