1. What do you think about this whole event? 2. Is it only waste of burger and money, or is it useful in some way? 3. Have you ever done something similar?
I think the whole event is definitely something unusual, different and interesting in its own way. But is it useful? The first time I read it I thought that it is not very smart and I was wondering what is it? Students who invented it did not say what they had to performing such an experiment. But after thinking about it to say that in this way you can explore a lot of things, for example, you can see how food behaves railways crossing the stratosphere, after he fell off the hamburger can be investigated if it is suitable for human consumption, and there are some substances, if so, and whether they are poisonous and a lot of different things so it's definitely something very interesting and unusual. I unfortunately never had such a crazy idea, or similar, but I think that with these ideas, people and human curiosity, many things have been discovered, and I hope will be discovered.
Idea is crazy, and it's what I like about it. Crazy and fun, so interesting. Like s7904 wrote, human curiosity is a cause of many discoveries, so it should be encouraged. But the hamburger sent to space is not only about discovering, but mainly about learning through play. I bet all of students will remember the "burger case" much more than other laboratory lessons or lectures. The experiment also gave the students feeling that they can do something fun connected with their knowledge, and that they can decide what experiments they perform. This will surely encourage them to continue, with maybe more fruitful discoveries. Unfortunately, I haven't done anything like that. But if I could, I would surely took a part in such project. Ideas like that makes learning learning much more enjoyable and much less tiring.
I find the experiment interesting and actually quite funny because what kind of person do you have to be to come up with the idea of sending a hamburger into the upper reaches of the atmosphere? Really creative. As it appears to me, this kind of event may not be very useful when it comes to science, as I guess it could be anything sent into the atmosphere- not necessarily a hamburger, but it implies that students can have fun while doing their scientific projects and, what is more, make the others interested. I actually find it important to provide our society with funny and interesting, innovative experiments instead of dry information. Furthermore, the students did it because (as the article says) they had been bored. I am kind of happy that there exist some people who can forget about the bore and escape the daily routine of school in order to get some interesting experience which leads to better education and inspiration not to be bored anymore but to be amused with some school projects. However, it requires creativity which unfortunately dwindles every day. That is why I kind of admire the students responsible for this event.
Ha, so funny! I enjoyed watching the video of the launch and flight of a burger. Nice views! And shooting it down with bow - weird but creative! It's a pity I don't have such ideas (and knowledge), I would just munch a burger. Also, wonder what ate that meteorite :)
I always value unusual, crazy and nonconventional behavior (as far as it does not cause any harm). I like people with fantasy so these students certainly have my appreciation as well as co-owner of the local burgery who wrote them a 1000$ check to finance this crazy idea.
The bottom line is - it seems that these days you can send pretty much anything into space thanks to these baloons. I have seen toys, phones, cameras - you name it! - all launched into space. It makes me want to launch something into space as well.
Maybe I find a baloon big enough to lift all members of polish parliament? :) Just think about it - I will be the first student to launch parliament into space. Should I even mention that there will be no parachutes included? :)
This idea is great! It's both funny and educational this is what we lack in our society. At first, when I watched it somewhere in the Internet for a few seconds, I thought is was FAKE! I'm glad that you brought up this topic here so I could pay it more attention.
It's definetely not a waste of burger nor money. I think that everything sent into space can teach us something. As s7904 said(It feels very strange to call you by a number like a robot or something) we can see how the food is behaving in there.
I've done something similar when I was in the middleschool with a sandwich. I forgot to take it out from my backpack before the holidays and after 2 months of decay, it looked awsome and the smell was indescribable!
