WEEK 10: Protein Diet

I know it might not be very interesting topic for most bloggers, but I would like to write a little about the protein diet, because my mom started it 2 months ago and the results are amazing.
Diets
Overweight is a problem of more and more people all over the world. Every day we are bombarded with tons of information on how we should eat, how much, what we should avoid eating to achieve your dream body shape. Too many diet types make us confused which, as a result, will make us doubt in a sense of any diet or training that will help you lose weight. In a countless number of diets only few can be considered useful. A diet invented and developed by a French doctor Pierre Dukan is for sure one of those. That innovational food program is no simple "just eat less" or "workout more" program. All you need to get desired body shape, without fear of a jo-jo effect, is willpower that will help you to adopt new feeding habits.

Thanks to the protein diet developed by Dr. Dukan we can learn many things. People who want to follow its rules learn how important, for our organism, are proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, and fats in our life. During Dukans protein diet, people get to know how much time your body needs to digest each element of the diet, because everything we eat cannot go unnoticed for our body. We can also learn how important, for our everyday work, are breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even if we had wrong eating habits, thanks to the protein diet we learn that this fight is not over and we can fix it.
How does it work in practice?
The protein diet consists of four consecutive and connected phases that will allow us achieve and sustain desired weight.
Those four treatments’ goals are:
- First - intense and stimulating weight loss in a very short time
- Second - regular weight loss allows to achieve your goal
- Third - fixing achieved, but unstable weight thanks to the diet. This phase takes 10 days for each lost kilogram.
- Fourth - last fixing achieved weight, being on the diet for 1 day a week for the rest of your life.
Each phase is built on a different principle, but all of them own effectiveness to the usage of  pure proteins in second phase, occurring alternately with vegetables. Balanced proteins occur in third phase, and then again pure in last phase.
Strict protein diet, which takes from two to seven days a week, affects human body "by surprise". The same diet used alternately with vegetables gives rhythm and effectiveness to the second phase of the plan and leads to the desired weight.
In last phase of the diet we can eat anything for 6 days providing restrictions for just one day.
Now, as I said, the reason I choose that topic is because of its effectiveness. I’ve seen it in real life, thanks to my mother. She lost 25 kilograms  in just two months and it never came back.
So I would like to know your opinion on this program.
Do you think it might be effective or not? And why?
Have you ever tried any other diet? What was the result?

Did I encourage you to think about the protein diet?

  1. Hm.. I heard a lot about this diet. But most of them are negative. For young people can be distractive for our body. In all diet we should know what is good for our body.
The best diet is just to eat less, and train! Much people totaly forgot to doing sports... it's sad, but for now we spend most of us time in front of PC.
I catch myself playing so much on vacaction... It waas so wrong for my body.. I must now work to get back to good looking stomach :<

  2. It depends how you will use the diet program. Most of people i've heard of (my mom's Friends) feel a lot better after losing weight. If u stick to the plan and drink much it is not too destructive to our organism.

  6. Every time I read about some magical diet I try to calm myself inside. Are you people really so naive to rely on any of that? Without a fully medical investigation? This is like the most inconsiderate thing I've ever heard. Too much of protein in an average man's diet can lead to acidification of the body. What if you have problems with your stomach? This can really ruin your heath! You need to remember that the protein is not accumulating in the adipose tissue and that's why it's really hard for the human body to get fully rid of it. The liver and the kidney are in constant work and it can lead to their failure even in the far future from cutting the diet. Many diseases are intensified by the protein (like Parkinson's) but there are many of them you can bring on yourself - osteoporosis is guaranteed! The excess of proteins makes more bacteria in the intestines which lead to lots of constipations. It also brings a risk of problems with joints, allergies, and kidney stones. Another very important fact is that we cannot get much of energy out of protein. Try to exercise after eating some of it. Impossible. Only after a workout it's advisable to eat it along with simple carbohydrates just to regenerate the muscles.

If you ever see that your eyes or belly are swollen - this may be one of the signs that your diet went wrong with the proteins. Dr Ducan diet can be really dangerous if not consulted with the specialist. I don't think that it is worth the risk. I believe that any losing diet is risky for the human body - only a balanced healthy diet and (even more important) exercises can lead you to the success.

  7. Well, I both negatives and positives about that diet. I guess I was quite popular some weeks ago and then in breakfast TV programmes many dietitians warned about it's destructive impact to kidneys. I know that proteins are rather stodgy and therefore people eat less other food. I think that if a one listens to his or her body, then should know if it's good or bad for him/her. The problem is that people sometimes go crazy about some new super-diets and don't care about their health.

  8. ok Kasia. You are probably right. And what will you say about overweight problems? Ponds failure. Selfesteem down. Hearth problems. And many, many other problems, or even sometimes disabilities (like beeing exusted after one flooor taken by stairs). That was only 2 months. You cannot destory your ogranism in 2 months. I am sorry but you are no where close to be fat( because i've seen you not long time ago :) ) so i don't think you can undrestand what does it means to be fat. Sometimes you cannot even call it "living" with all those overweight problems.

  9. Piotr, i am in total agreement with you. It is very important to talk to the doctor before any diet, and doing test during the program.

  10. Overweight is a serious health issue, but there are so many other ways of getting out of it. Seeing a dietician and exercise is the first step, not a popular diet.

  11. Ok. And what if you are unable to exercise? Just unable because of health physical issues?

  12. Well, I'm thin, so I don't need a diet, so no: I've never thought about going on any diet.
My mum used to be on a diet, but she achieved her perfect weight, and it's also over. But I don't remember which diet it was.
Yours sounds interesting, but still, when I'll have to loose some weight, I'll go to a dietist, and he'she'll tell me, what to do. I don't trust any diets anywhere.... :/

  15. If you are unable to exercise (which is extremely hard to imagine as there are plenty of different exercises for a variety of injured people - even a rehabilitation may be a form of it) it is even more important to follow the doctor's orders. You cannot just pick up whatever you find.

  16. I have no single idea about diets in single exception of "every super-diet is horribly unhealthy. Drink crazy amounts of water, green tea and aloe juice, eat fruits and veggies, move your buttocks and you'll be fine". Oh, and "if your body tells you it wants chocolate, give it chocolate. If you instantly drool when you see citron, buy giant bag of citrons, take a spoon and eat it". Doctor says I'm fine.

  17. 1. Do you think it might be effective or not? And why?

Yes, I think it might be effective, but for a short time (yo-yo effect). Why? Because I don’t believe in any “magic” diets. If you want to lose weight, you have to exercise and put more attention to what you eat and how much you eat, but what is also important about effective (long-term) diet is that it should be healthy, balanced, rich in various components.
    2. Have you ever tried any other diet? What was the result?

I was on a diet this year, which brought good results, but it required a lot of my work and self-control.

    3. Did I encourage you to think about the protein diet?

In theory it all sounds good, but in practice it has a lot of disadvantages. Some of my friends were on that diet and I also asked my dietician about Dukan diet – basing on what they told me, I think that diet is unhealthy and boring for palate.
