Week 10: Hannah the Mermaid

Hannah the Mermaid

Have you ever dream about a real mermaid?

Being a mermaid is just a normal day for Hannah Fraser Rastovich. She is a professional mermaid model. Her career consists of underwater performance. Films, TVs and photographers can hire Hannah for a show. She can hold breath for very long time and she's eager to swim with wild animals. She has swum with whales, dolphins, sharks, sting rays, sea lions, turtles and many other creatures in the open ocean. Mermaid travels the world, performing for different kind of projects. Sometimes it's charity or commercial.

Since she was a little child, she has been fascinated by mysterious oceans. As a normal girl, her dream was to become a real mermaid. When she was 9 years old, Hannah created her first tail. With this equipment, she constantly swam around her pool to practice free diving and holding her breath. Now, she has a few tails that are made with an accurate precision. All of them are colorful and beautifully handmade. She made her dream come true and she became a perfect imitation of mermaid.

You can buy simple tails in the normal aqua shops. They are made from silicone/latex. Hannah made her first tail out of orange plastic material. The next one was more complicated and much faster. The unusual construction was a plastic boomerang with two coat hangers, flippers and a lot of duct tape inside wetsuit material.

Have you ever dreamt of becoming something/someone you always wanted?
Would you like to swim wearing a tail?
Do you think, everything can come true, if you really want it?

  1. Wow, that's an amazing dream. Coodos to her!

  2. OMG, this is so cool! It is so great that she made her dreams come true. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a mermaid too:P. Especially after watching Disney's animation/movie "Ariel" and "Ariel 2" . This is kind a different story because it is about a mermaid who wanted to be a girl but you can imagine that I was infuenced by mermaids by that movie.

I also like to swim a lot, just be in the water. But even though I am pretty good at holding my breath I am sure that I wouldn't be able to do that for the whole 2 minutes!

I must admit that I no longer want to be a mermaid but maybe I could borrow it for a couple of hours just to see for myslef how to really feels.

This girl must be really athletic, I am sure that it is pretty hard to deal with this tail in the water.
I must admit that she actually looks like a real mermaid.

Not only did she made her dreams come true but she also managed to to a buisness on it. That's what I call good buisness woman. Nice subject to discuss because it is somethinf totally unexpected.

  3. Being a mermaid is not cool :P. It isn't an interesting topic for me so I will focus on questions.
Have you ever dreamt of becoming something/someone you always wanted?
My dreams were not too fantastic I wanted to be the guy from the IT department. Subsequent dreams is the project management. I was able to connect to both things, so full of success :).
Would you like to swim wearing a tail?
With the tail rather not, but with fins is quite nice.
Do you think, everything can come true, if you really want it?
Yes, yes, yes! The only limit is our imagination. Without thinking about dreams we have no chance of success.

  4. Sure, that when i was a young girl i wanted to be a mermaid, but now I'm over 12 years old.. hehe
Now I have a fins and I love to swim with them!

  5. I think silicone tail is more difficult than fins. You have to put more strength in it. I am not an expert, but it would be really hard to move with tied legs.

I understand it's more girlish dream. Beautiful mermaid tail is not boys choice :)

  6. Why did I never think of it :) I could be a beautiful Mermaid now...
Ok maybe it was a little cheeky. When kids grow up dreams are changing.
I hope that our Mermaid Hannah earn enough money to keep herself going when she will not be so beautiful as she is now.

Beautiful dream, original, and maybe that is why she was successful. That is a very rare thing to happen :>

And I am not pessimistic. I am just being realistic.

  7. As I consider the mermaid topic a little bit cheesy, I have to admit that she looks like a miracle while swimming. So glorious! Fantastic! But it's a hard job, I assume - she has to have a crazy huge lung capacity to do this. I wonder if she ever fainted during doing her job or does she suffer from some kind of diseases coming from the lack of oxygen in her blood... It's hard to even think about it.

It reminded me somehow of one of our parties when we watched the most extreme waterslides on Earth. There is one in Dubai which leads through transparent pipe in the swimming pool full of sharks. Want to feel like this cute little mermaid? Save money, go to Dubai and try not to have heart attack while doing this! :D

  8. When I was young I wanted to be superhero or at least someone close to it. Now I changed my mind and I want only to be happy. Fortunately I don't need to turn into some fantastic character to achieve it.
To answer your question, swimming with tail sounds cool but I prefer to do it with special Rescue Fins, they are much faster and probably more comfortable. Maybe it's because I don't care how beautiful I would look as a mermaid ;) Everything can come true unless laws of physics deny that. Your article is good proof of that theory

  9. so weird :D
I can't say anything wrong about mermaid because part of ladies contributors will harass me.
Have I ever dreamt of becoming someone I always wanted?
Yes but it was never fictional person. I try to have a sober mind as often as possible.
I never swim with tail, surprising isn't it? I love swimming in classical way :)
Ofcourse everything can come true, if we really want it, also being a ,mermaid.

  10. Wow I’ve never heard of Hannah the mermaid but people do a lot or random/bizarre stuff this years. I have always dream to become a rich person that does now have to do anything but to sit on a yacht and relax. I do believe that dreams come true and I think everybody believes that because if they didn’t what would be the purpose of living and trying to achieve something when you know that you will never achieve? Would I want to swim wearing a tail? Sure, why not, could be fun to try :)
I would love to see Wikor Liszkiewicz as a mermaid :)

  11. I cannot count the creatures I wanted to be when I was little. For example, I’ve wanted to be a magician when I was little. I used to pretend that my blanket was a curtain and my stuffed animals were the audience. I performed some tricks that I thought of on the spot. But being a mermaid was also one of my dreams, but more like Disney’s “Little Mermaid”, I still remember all the songs from the movie.

I love to swim, and I would like to try swimming with a tail. I don’t think it should be much harder than using fins. Do I think that everything can come true, if really wanted? I think that If you work really hard you can achieve anything, as long as it is physically possible. As for now I really love my life, improving myself, making all my dreams true, becoming a greater creature than a mere mermaid. I’m living my life in such a way that I wouldn’t like to be anyone else.

  12. I always dreaming to become dragon or just cat... but this didn't gonna hapened :<
but...she is really amazing! She look's beautiful :)but on the other hand... she have about 10 years more of good loooking, and then what she's gonna do? What she doing beside being mermaid?

  13. Darkia, here's a man who also wanted to become a cat ;) But Hannah looks much then that guy so you follow the on your own responsibility :P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stalking_Cat Hannah

It's great that Hannah managed herself to become mermaid. I think it's completely useless but still her dreams came true and not many people can say that about their dreams.

Back to the questions, I also dreamt to become a magician when I was young. Unlike Kasia I had no "stuffed animals" that could be my audience and I quickly gave up that dream. I don't really like swimming, so I don't think I would ever like to swim with a tail either.

  14. I always liked Disney movie The Little Mermaid, so for me Hannah is amazing! Turning a little girl’s dream into a way of living is extraordinary. To be honest, I envy her.
I would love to try swimming wearing a tail. After a few lines of the article, I started to imagine how my tail would look like. Maybe becoming a mermaid it’s a cool idea for Halloween next year?
In my opinion, everything can come true but you cannot only desire it. You have to work really hard and be focused on achieving your goal.
