Week 4 [27.10-2.11.2014] Penthouse

PENTHOUSE - architecture/design

I think that interior design has been changing a lot.
The latest trends, materials, technologies and devices are now more and more accessible in Poland.

Designers have more possibilities to create something extraordinary.

At the beginning of the 90s  it was too expensive for ordinary people; only the richest could afford it.
Nowadays many people want  to use space in their apartments in the best possible ; that’s why they are going to an architect to take advice.

This is one of the most amazing apartments I have ever seen, wouldn't you agree? Although I'm not quite sure if these are real photos or a fantastic 3D render... But who cares when it looks this good? The apartment is real enough anyway, with its soaring windows and open sea views.

I like the radiator covers painted in matte gray, at the same time hiding the ugly standard radiators and adding character to the rooms. The house was built in 1912, so they fit very well with its original style. This unique 159 sqm penthouse was designed by Koncept Stockholm.

See more here.

Still, we are far from Western Europe where the use of  interior designer services is common. Among clients are young people who have achieved professional success. A well-designed interior is the confirmation of their social status.

Unfortunately, the Polish reality lacks that sort of relationship: between a client / investor and an interior designer.

What do you think about this penthouse? Do you like this design?
Do you have your favorite apartment? Present its photos please.

Maybe you would like to show your apartment/room or flat.

  1. I think that employing interior design advisor is still not available for ordinary people, they rather are looking for inspiration in magazines and tv shows. The shown penthouse is absolutely beautiful and I admire this design. For sure it is not the cheapest one.

I admire open spaces, houses with swimming pools and apartments with balcony or even terrace. The combination of merging new technology with objects that are old-stylized is incredible.

The following examples are my favorite:

  3. I think this interior is very good looking. First of all it is extremely simple. This is the feature that I like the most about all things connected with design.
There is only one thing that doesn't convince me - this interior looks kind of old, you can notice it for example when observing the window shape, or use of dark wood. I think wood in interiors can look amazing - take a look of an example of wooden elements in this bathroom

What I prefer is definitely modern design. I love when it is extremely simple, bright (because of white color, or because of huge amount of light), cleverly furnished - I mean even when there is not really much space you can find in the room plenty of important things. Here you can find amazing example of it:

But when it comes to simplicity this is a perfect example (only sad part of it that it is not really useful, dust is everywhere :) )

I think this is kind of girly point of view on interior design :)

  4. This penthouse presented on the pictures is not bad but I prefer warm colors.
The design is ok but again I prefer more colors on the furnitures.

I think that I'm huge fan of modern style and I don't really want my flat to look as calm as on the photos

  5. Karolina Wieczorek:
Definitely agree with your opinion. I also like big spaces, houses with swimming pool, balconies and terraces. Penthouse, which I showed is one of the many that I like. And yes, it should not be the cheapest. I really like your apartments. Especially the first two.

I'm glad you like it. As for the shape of the windows that had to be so because it is very big, old brick building and modern shape of the windows from the outside would look tragically. I really like your example with light wood in the bathroom. It looks great!

Of course, I understand your point. Everyone in the end may have a different taste. In terms of the apartment picture that you put here, it looks really nice. In my opinion the most wonderful thing in it, is the view of the city. It is amazing ...

  9. I truly like the skandinavian design. Because it always refer to sea and sailing. Not only in colours - geay, gryish blue, light blue, withe. But also in materials like teak wood which normaly is used in the inside of a sailing boats.

And even if the penthouse presented by Michał was designed a decade ago than it's a very good design, because it's ageless. And ageless thing are always in style.

I'm also a fan of good taking care of space given in the flat to make it nice for leaving, not only for a magazine.

Lataly this is my favourite one:

    bedroom

    livingroom

    kitchen

  10. These interiors looks comfortable and elegant. I agree with Weronika - good design makes apartment ageless. I really like it.
I'm a fan of decorative elements, for example moroccan floor tiles. The stark interiors looks great, when there is something like ornament. So, eclectism is for everyone, who's undecided. These little details help to make house original and characteristic. My favorite one belongs to Stella McCartney - the wall of her studio is covered with beautiful, white mosaic:

The shown penthouse is very good looking. However I prefer warmer colours as @Katarzyna Przybysz already said. Moreover I don't like small windows. Wide open spaces and a big wall of glass, that's it. e.g.

    Something like that

I am fan of simplicity. I don't like many decorations but I admire mix of different materials like glass, wood, stone and concrete. Good designer can make with that ideal home / apartment project.

  12. Presented penthouses are nice but i would rather prefer something bigger with swimming pool, my own computer center:) , with big space and at the top of the rooftop with helicopter landing pad. This is one that I like.
And here is place were I live lets say my "penthouse" xD. And by the way maybe someone is looking for a room. I have one free.

  13. All those comments confirmed my belief that architects are really important when you decide to decorate and furnish your house. Interior design is often considered easy and not worth paying an expert for, and the results can be terrifying - we can see the examples of horrible interior designs on pages like 'Polisz architekczer'.

I'd love to have a spacious, well-lit flat with darkwood flooring... I hope one day I'll have enough money to hire a good architect and afford my dream apartment :)

  14. Presented penthouse are very nice and stylish. They have enough space for a comfortable life. Certainly I could live there but of courese I prefer penthouse in South Beach Miami mentioned by Cezary :)

  15. I think that hiring interior design advisor to create whole atmosphere is a bad idead. If you have a lot of money you can ask for his help. Maybe he will show you some sites and shops where you can buy things similar to your taste.
In my opinion home is home, and doing something on your own will make it look and "feel' much better. Ask yourself a question: 'When you will be more proud of yourself, when you bought something ready-to-go or built it on your own?'

  17. Thank you very much for all your comments. You showed a lot of very cool projects. The apartment, which Cezary Góralski shown, is of course great, but for the price ($ 25 mln) I'd rather buy a beautiful apartment, or build a house and use rest of the money to live on a high standard for the rest of my life.

  18. I really appreciate this penthouse, though it was build in 1912 it blends very well with nowadays standards. If anyone want a good looking apartment he should do the research and come up with something. Of course you need some knowledge and skills but it is all in the web. If you don't have time for this and you got the money hire someone to do it for you. Everything is within our reach.

  19. I definitely agree with this point of view. I like a modern design and pictures of apartments in this article are in my gust. Unfortunately, you are right that in Poland we are far away from other countries with that creative solutions in design. I can also agree with Karolina Wieczorek as people instead of thinking in creative way and try to do something by their own just do things which are shown in TV set in some design programs.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What is more, there are many solutions to make your home more designed and you do not need much money. You can buy furniture which are old and used by somebody and you can put in it a new life in your house.

  21. The interiors are nice, and very functional. Personally, I like the location and views. The windows in the rooms areenough big and rooms are friendly. Do I would like to live in something like that? I would prefer to design something myself. I'd rather to give the rooms a character of my person.

  22. What do you think about this penthouse?
Well, for starters it's awfully white. Who would like to live in such environment? Throw some colors to it at least. Then, sure why not. It's free right?
    Do you like this design?
Not to my liking, but if it's free...
Do you have your favorite apartment?
    My own :)
    Present its photos please.
    No way :P

  24. I like the presented apartment, but I really think that those radiator covers ruin the whole image. I'd prefer one of those:

    http://www.strebel.co.uk/sites/default/files/styles/product-image/public/images/products/205x205-column-retro2-132.jpg?itok=PkoZ8jZ9
    with no covers.

As for using the help of interior design specialists, Karolina is right- it's not accessible to most of us because of the cost.
It is a very good idea to look for interesting ideas on your own if you cannot afford to hire a specialist.
Sometimes the lack of elementary taste can produce housing monstrosities like the ones shown on polish facebook profile "Crappy flats for rent".

There is one thing about the presented apartment that impresses me the most: the space and the windows – as I see, many people feel similar. The shape of the windows shown on the second photo is great and really original.
