Week 6 [02.11 - 08.11.2015] Curry spice

Curry spice

Curry spice is one of the healthiest spices. Curry is spice added to each Asian dish. Curry is  a vegetable – cheese, fish, meat and other elements in the sauce which can be all in the main course.
Curry consists of various ingredients depending on dishes.

At the the bottom, some of them:

There are several varieties of curry:
·
     Indian curry – mellow taste
a)          Yellow
b)         Red
·
Curry from Sri Lanka – spicy taste

Curry is one of the most popular spices in the world, which cannot be avoided in any kitchen  in the world. It is often used with meat, vegetables, sauce, egg dishes and especially rice. Not only does it have a unique flavour, but also its color is very beautiful.

Additionally, this spice is beneficial for our health. Statistics show how our health condition changes when we add curry spice to our dishes. The research shows that people who use this spice regularly have not got problems with their weight.  What is more, they sometimes lose weight because of using carry spice. Back to the history of this spice, scientists have no doubt that the Indian and Malay did not suffer from various diseases. One of such reasons is that they used spices. Perhaps curry spice helped them to keep in good condition.

My favourite recipe which I used comes from Jamie Oliver.

Why do you use spices ?

  1. Everything goes well with curry, but then again not all curry is good. Since it's a blend of different spices, it's very important that all the ingredients are of good quality. Most of the curry spices you have in mainstream supermarkets are very poor. Try going to Kuchnie Świata or something like that.

  3. I didn't "use" it, but I did taste it, and it's like one of the most universal spice I tried up to that point.

Probably to make meals taste better, is there any other reason to use spice? ;)

  4. From what I know, it's a lot more varieties of curry (may consist even 25 ingredients such as snek, basil, mint, dill, allspice, thyme, parsley, anise and mustard). Personally, I really like curry, but when it is used to typical Indian dishes, because I think that by its distinctive flavor, this spice is not suitable for every dish. And like most people I use spices to give a deeper flavor to dishes.

  6. It's hardly to believe that using spices will protect you from various diseases or getting fat. I think it's more complicated and complex. Those people you mention, live in the regions that cultivate they're food traditions. They simply eat food, which is known by their fathers and grandfathers. I suppose they draw upon their knowledge about healthy food. I think this is the main reason of their good shape and health conditions. Moreover, i read ones about eating healthy and there was a statement that our organism is adapted to food of our origin and it digest it well.

  7. Well everything tastes good with curry, but we also need to say that there are many, many kinds of curry. They may be very different from what we call "curry". There are curries that have very different taste from others, that different that I wouldn't call them with the same name for example there is a curry which should be used only for lamb meat and it's very spicy and there is also a sour curry, so curry here is more like a base to most meals.
As Dann said: People who mostly use it, like I said the "proper curry", known this for years, their elders used it and this is their heritage. They eat food which is healthy, they live by rules of their fathers and we can see effects of that lifestyle. They are in good shape and live very long time.
In my life I used a "standard european" curry which is ok but I also tried better curry from shops with asian food and it's a different story to tell how good that curry is. Try to find one in your area and let your imagination go wild on composing a meal with it ;)

  13. I never had the opportunity to use curry spice. The reason, I think, is that I don't cook very much, but when I do it's almost never nothing oriental. Nevertheles, I could start using it, why not.
I use spices to pull better, intense flavour of the dish, or to add some specific taste to it.

  14. I ate curry seasoned meals and they tasted well. I use spices every day, can’t imagine eating only boiled meat, or just vegetables. I rather use single spices than mixes, mostly basil, oregano, coriander, and pepper of course. I used to use a lot of salt, but it is not healthy, so nowadays I try to avoid it.

I often use curry, as good as other spices. In my opinion food without spices tastes like nothing. Spices give dishes unique taste and can change completely its essence.
They have also health benefits, so we should use it everyday :)

Curry is an often guest in our cooking since my parnts' visit to India. Even though it's heavily overused there, the dishes prepared with it, when connected with some other hot spices, are kinda preferable for us over many traditional polish ones. It's good to know, that curry is healthy as well, it will be one more reason to choose it when a need of decision making arises.

  18. I use curry almost everyday. My usual dinner consists of chciken curry, turmeric rice and vegetables. I totally love it. Generally I use many spices, I can't imagine any meal without it. Asian cuisine is the best in terms of variety of spices they use, that's why I'm really into it.
