I have found online a few opinions on recent Polish football event.
Read them, comment on them and discuss them with other group members.

In my opinion, Poland shouldn't be in charge of coordinating an events of a great magnitude, mainly because we're a very unorganized country. A recent example being a match between Poland and England, despite weather forecast predicting that it's going to rain all day - a stadium roof hasn't been closed. And so, it resulted in thousands of people which came to see the game, getting soaking wet. Moreover, I regard sentencing 2 fans as a scandal, they aren't hooligans, they're just ordinary fans and they don't deserve such strict sentences. In the end, the only pleasing thing might be the final result, which is quite advantageous for the Polish representation.
ReplyDeleteWhat could we say... The stadium was ready, it was us not having a swimsuit in the right situation :) I guess this is why these 2 guys were arrested. The funny thing is that my sister called me this day and asked me if i wanted to go with my uncle because they had one free ticket for me. Of course if i knew that it would be such a great showery event i would've gone there with no doubt. Now a little more seriously. I think that there is one and only responsible organization for the whole thing and it is PZPN. IMO They should pay the compensation to every fan of English represantation which came to us from UK according to David Woods's thoughts for Eurosport. The more i read about this unhappy event, it gets more funny for me. Like the article says, you don't need to be a Nostradamus to forecast the weather.
ReplyDeleteThis game but rather an attempt to organize was really funny. We can talk big the fault PZPN NCS or maybe the ministry of sports. It seems to me that any such adventure and a slip-up gives a lesson for the future and will try not to make mistakes .... I was just wondering if this story really amused the world and ourselves just as her present. We do not hear about the various blunders in German or English league and we do not hear how the war is fought in the English football association but it happens. Sometimes at these events, it seems to me that we Poles like how there is a lot of noise around us and that we can not see our success or we can not boast of success is the only thing left is releasing comments about our failures.
ReplyDeleteProblem was not the weather, but distributed responsibility for making the decision. They decided wrong, we all know that, but what we don't know is who made the decision- one say PZPN, another one FIFA, or people form the Ministry of Sports. It's easy to be angry at big organizations, easy to say that minister Mucha must resign, but she is not the one who was there when someone asked "do we shut the roof or not?". It was one or few more persons who made the decision, they have names, and what makes me really angry, is that it's impossible to know who it was, personally. These people should take the responsibility for what they did, but it's very probable that for them no consequences will be drawn. They are anonymous in the crow of well-payed managers and directors.
ReplyDeleteAnd about the papers news...well, it happens. I'm glad that at least two of polish fans showed everyone that we have at least sense of humour in bad situations, that's the thing we can be proud of ;)

ReplyDeleteI think that we should not be so strict about what happend with the roof. Im sorry for all fans that where on the stadium that day and I understand their anger but its just a game. We should relax and focus on more important things like economy. The good thing is that it will never happen again.
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with s7719. Sentencing 2 fans is not a scandal but the law that has to be obeyed. I know that it was fun and all but we have to be objective. You broke the law you will be punished by the law.
I totally agree with katarzyna_girwicz, about taking the responsibility on the Polish side.
ReplyDeleteSome UK comments of them were funny, but almost every writter saw the guilt on polish side not FIFA.
After all it is only a game, so I don't see the point in making from that so big thing. No one get hurt, die or something.
I feel sorry for fans who came, spend money and didn't see the game. But now they can say that they saw swimmers and running competition at Polish National stadion ;)
Not every one have such oportunity ;)
According to this, I agree with s7719 about this two man, I don't think they should be considered as criminals or hooligans.
It is difficult to be objective and proud of being Polish in this case. There are no arguments to bring up to justify what had happened. Here,we are talking about the international event with all eyes on Poland and yet again, we failed. The result is mockery and international humiliation. This game was an excellent opportunity to showcase the stadium, the country itself as well as to prove that we are serious about football and finally have a strong team. Unfortunately the opposite became reality. The English papers compared us to the episode of Monty Python and the English fans were livid. All this due to one wrong decision based on the weather.I'm speechless and at the same time can only pray that something even worse will happen soon in the football arena and this event will be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteThis is just Poland, a small country between Germany, which owns Greece and Russia where live people drinking more vodka than us. For many years we don't have any football stadium on european level and now when we have few stadiums (thanks to FIFA) we can't use it properly. What kind of idiots must NCS employees be, if they change the field, which had 36 centimeters thickness into 10 centimeters "almost grass", which drains four times less water? I don't telling about the roof because it's pathetic that so expensive roof can only move when the weather is sunny.
ReplyDeleteAccording to this two guys I think like Zdunek, because our law restrict ability to be on a field and they broke this law, so they should be punished especially when we have war with stadium hooligans and we are working on safe and family friendly stadiums
Stadium cost 2 billion zlotys, and the problem is the closure of the roof when it's cold and when it rains, the question was how clear the decision to install the roof of the structure will require a very peculiar terms that it can be in general use. We will ask questions, who prepared the project, who approved it, who realized who received the service. Why was so cosmically expensive, why not meet the basic functions.Do not let the illusions one probably will not answer. In all this circus, no one took care of the good fans. First, why do so many thousands of people were held for so long, when it was known from the beginning of the match and it did not take place. Secondly, some people have suffered enormous costs, lost a lot of time, arranged for leave from work - all just to watch the game on October 16 Poland - England. Just a shame for Europe and a total disgrace the match organizer.
ReplyDelete"For many years we don't have any football stadium on European level and now when we have few stadiums (thanks to FIFA) we can't use it properly"
ReplyDeleteArtur, the truth is embarassing but still funny. The moment I've heard about this "little weather gaffe", I've pictured footballers running on the grass wearing slippers and flip-flops.
Not giving a thought about possible rain during autumn (duh) is one of the best examples that some important people are plain dumb. My only remedy is to laugh as loud as I can.
My friend has been working at the stadium in time of EURO 2012, so I heard about few situations like this. I guess we need to get used to it, for now. Artur, maybe someone will finally hand us a stadium user's guide, and we'll get to know how it works :)
As far as I know decision to leave roof opened for the game was made by FIFA/UEFA delegate and it was approved by BOTH teams. And if all of those people didn't mind checking weather forecast it's THEIR fault and they should be all to blame, especially UEFA/FIFA delegate whom should be held responsible for the whole mess and FIFA/UEFA should cover money loss for moving this event to another day.
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad that "Poland that had successfully co-hosted a European Championship with Ukraine this summer" lost big part of that hard job. That was work of millions of Poles and it was partially buried by some irresponsible people, but I am affraid it was one person. For sure there was a scene in a headquarter of The Polish National Stadium when mr. drip comes to mr. boss and saying: "- mr. boss, it is going to rain, maybe we shoud close a roof? - no, probably only a drizzle drops and dries quickly, we have got very modern object and...Warsaw is not England! He he he. Don't bother and lubricate my door because it creaks from ages".
ReplyDeleteThat was a big mistake of "one person" and whole polish nation will suffer. But I don't feel guilty, in this situation I am ashamed to England and Europe football fans. If I were an English fan , I would ask about my money back. Once bitten, twice shy!
