I think that kind of activity is an unhealthy way to release the stress. The anominity makes believe, that you can say whatever you wan, t whenever you wan't, and noone will ever punish you for that. So, that's some kind of a liberty. But sometimes that trash talk isn't anonimous. But it's much simplier to find courage while knowing, that this person is not in front of you, so he/she cannot do anytjing about that.... I don't think I have ever trolled anyone, but maybe someone would say otherwise. No idea.... but I don't feel the need for this kind of activity....
Answering the given questions... 1. Not everyone has this "natural tendency", but the term is used right, I agree. We all remember our school years when there was always this one or two kids in the classroom that annoyed a teacher with hard questions or weird answers. Also, remember those "intelligent bullies" that was always finding a way to have fun of others without any consequences? These are the features of every internet troll, too. Sometimes it also comes from low self-esteem and the destructible pleasure of bringing anyone down, but not every troll is a fat, acne-covered psycho. 2. A lot of different things stimulate those behaviours, I would say. What stimulates a little troll inside of me is the stupidity of others. If I can find a way to expose someone's ridiculousity just by provoking him or her to write exactly what they meant, I do it immediately. I guess it comes from the growing rate of people for which really dumb behaviour is something to be proud of - that's why the most trolled people in Polish internet are Piotr Kukulski or this young millionaire guy... Can't remember his name. My husband, for example, is a perfect troll - he can sometimes write just one sentence and provoke the giant storm of conversation between people who are too serious about the given topic. He's like Charlie Chaplin in "Modern Days", picking up the red cloth from the pavement just to make it clean and provoking a revolution by this simple gesture. Brilliant thing. I love this kind of intelligent trolling, but if we're talking about just spreading hatred in the comments, then I consider it quite awful (and boring, too). 3. I troll a lot, but I guess people who was trolled by me never considered it as something evil - I would never insult someone or do any harm. It's also pretty hard to troll me - we've been doing it for too long to care. 4. As I've stated in the second point, I do. Intelligent trolling gives you a chance for a challenging conversation, levels up your language skills and tests your wisdom. It can be absolutely funny, too, but all the fun vanishes if someone is hurt (psychologically, of course) during this proccess. 5. Do. NOT. REMOVE. ANONYMITY. Ever. There are always a way to pass every kind of security, so it's a pure nonsense.
1. For sure some people have natural tendency to do such things, exactly like in normal life. Internet only strengthens need of that behaviour in case of that specific kind of people. 2. As Martyna said, stupidity of some people is best way to make others ready for trolling. Some people really deserve that kind of punishment, of course only in situation when it's "intelligent trolling". Writing something just to provoke avalanche of insults has no sense in my opinion. 3.No idea, maybe it happened. When we talk about internet there is small chance that something like this had place, except this blog I don't write any comments and I don't use social networks like facebook. More possibly I became "trolled" by watching some confusing video for example but that case has no serious affect on anything. 4. As I mentioned before - punishment. Sometimes it's nice to show stupid people that they are stupid. 5. I don't think so, maybe it wouldn't be as popular as now. In general it's difficult to remain anonymous in Internet when something really bad happened because of our activity.
Trolling isn't realy something that makes me lought. It's just rude for me. People, who writes such things have a lots of complexes. I think, they want to show, how powerfull they are, by making others feel confused and irritated. The truth is, that trolls are very weak inside.
In my opinion trolling someone means - to feel more appreciated. I never done that and I never will.
Trolling is actually some loss of humanity. This is my opinion, from a sense of anonymity. It is easier to offend someone writing than to say it directly to the other person. Physical impunity that no one was hit by the word gives us an advantage in giving opinion. in my opinion, trolling is a disease of the Internet. trolling is like with people who are funny. After a while, it starts to bother us. I agree with the previous speaker that it is rude. As an enthusiast of human psychology and the internet. I wonder if the moment when we go to the video's comments change the face of this problem. In my opinion, when the Internet grows, these people disappear.
Trolling is a big issue in today society. Internet gives it users a power to express themselves in an anonymous way. Because of that some units, I refer to them as "gangsta rappers". They write things that they would never say aloud publicly. It is happening because they feel that they are not responsible for words they write in internet. And because there is no one to respond in action, they simple do what the like.
Martyna Zynch in her comment write about school bullies. This is exactly the same thing with the difference that trollers acting in internet.
What to do with trollers? Facebook and Twitter already launched buttons allowing users to report on trolling actions. Our society could also act by using the tools given by those companies. We could also counter their comments with some of our own.
I don't mind trolling too much. There are no better ways of fighting it other than ignoring it and deleting comments, so that's what I do, and it doesn't bother me much. Sometimes, however, it's a very interesting form of entertainment to read successful trolling on ridiculous ideas. It's almost the internet way of perfecting sarcasm.
That said, there's the silly form of trolling on important issues. If you are reading an important article raising important questions and you see someone trolling in the comments section, that is annoying. Fortunately, an easy way of fighting it is moderating the comments and deleting such comments.
I do not believe the Internet should become a less anonymous place. One of the major reasons why it is so great is because it is anonymous. Thanks to that we have such socially useful places as Taboo message boards or WikiLeaks. Removing anonymity would ruin the creativity and social evolution on the Internet. Trolling is just a by-product that is not severe, and is easy to counter. It's a relatively minor issue for people who are good enough to just ignore trolling.
