CREATIVITY

Hello everyone!

In today’s presentation I’d like to show you how to fire up our creativity at work and also motivate you to change your approach.

I’ve divided my presentation into three main parts. First, we will be looking at barriers which limit our creativity. Next, I’m going to talk about practical methods, which help us to be creative. And third, I will finish my presentation by showing you what the perfect working conditions should be.

Everyone knows what is creativity. However, often we don’t know how to be innovative, imaginative. Does anyone think what is the main reason which don’t allow us to be creative? The most important barriers are stereotypes. Mostly, we stick to adopted rules and choose the easiest and the most popular way. Don’t do it! Maybe some of you are wondering – why? The answer is – because “beauty is only skin deep”.

Example: You are an employee in clothes shop. If you see a chic and elegant woman, you will probably think –she must be rich and have a lot of money, therefore you focus your attention on her. But if you see women clothed unkempt and more casual, you will think –she must be poor and you will immediately forget her. But what if she’s richer than that elegant and chic woman? If we change our approach, leaving the most obvious one behind, we may notice new and interesting possibilities.

Next barriers are killer phrases. Don’t say – “If something is good, why change it?” or “it’s impracticable”. This sentences narrow our mind.

Another barrier is  focused on one, correct solution. If we decide that there’s only one way to solve a problem, we may never notice that there’s another solutions.

What about procedures? Procedures enforce doing things in a specific way. This kind of thing is not always good and useful.

Let’s now take a look at practical methods. How often are we thinking about what could we change to get rid of the barriers? First of all, we should be willing to break these barriers and try to be open-minded. Don’t be afraid to express your ideas and opinions! Who knows? Maybe you will come up with something interesting. Secondly, you should exercise your mind and imagination. For example, mental activities could be very – within two minutes try to write as many new sentences as you can by finishing this one - “Most people are…”. Thirdly, we should base our new ideas on the old ones, because perhaps our old ideas are not completely wrong.

Now, let’s consider the last point. How should we change the conditions at work. Everyone knows that noise at work and working under pressure is not making us more efficient. Silence or our favorite music helps to  be creative. We should have people who can motivate us and people with whom we like to work.

To sum up, firstly – identify the barriers and try to break them.  Secondly, you should change your behavior – don’t be afraid to express your opinion, train your mind and create new ideas on the basis of the old ones. And finally – change your working conditions. Silence and people are of great importance.

Pablo Picasso said: Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. Therefore seek/look for child inside us!

QUESTION :

1)    Do you think it's worth being creative?
2)    What do you think about this ?

  1. Of course it is worth!
Thanks to the creative attitude can improve the quality of our lives. Adoption of creative attitude like you wrote depends on overcoming the barriers that we have in mind, and which for some reason did not cross, that is outside common templates of thinking and acting. If you do not think you are creative, you will not be creative - because such a belief is an obstacle that blocks your creative thinking. Creativity is a change in the perception of reality, seeing things and phenomena that were next to us, but we were not aware of them, openness to new ideas. If we go beyond the rigid framework of perception, it may be that within our grasp are interesting possibilities, and the world is much more complex, full of new experiences, because it all depends on how we perceive ourselves and the surrounding world. I would add one more thing. Every word uttered by you has a great impact on your emotions and behavior. I suggest you a very subtle, but very significant change. Just that instead of "I have to" begin to say "I want". Radically change the way your approach to everything you do and give you the motivation to act. The word "I have to" is a negative anchor. Associated with the duty of duress. Evokes negative emotions, and lowers your motivation every time you utter them. The word "I want" is the opposite extreme emotional. Evokes a feeling of motivation, desire, and pleasure. What we want are the things to which we aspire, we desire, of which we dream.

  2. Without creativity, there would be no future - a argument that I once heard and fully agree with her. Only creative people solve our problems by coming up with new technologies and thus create tomorrow. I think it's creativity combined with a desire to solve problems was the cause of so many inventions. Some of them are great while others were used for this in order to fight and destroy what others have built. I think that people need and creativity are used in everyday life to improve our quality of life, even if we do not make a spectacular inventions we deal with the problems of everyday life.

  3. It is essential to be creative in life. Being creative allows people to think outside the box and come up with new solutions and ideas. It is important not to be intimidated by others and not give up when the first obstacle appears. I am very grateful for so many creative people on the world making it interesting and never the same.
I consider myself a creative person who likes to be challenged. No mater what I do,I always give my best and try to come up with additional ideas or designs to make sure that the final product becomes unique and innovative. I admire people like painters or modern fashion designers who stay true to themselves and pursuit their dreams.

  4. 1) Do you think it's worth to be creative?
Creativity is one from a few things distinguish us from machines :) If you are not creavie and do only what you are told, you could be easily replaced by robot which wolud be programmed to do what you did.
That is why we have to be creative and think about what we do and how we do something.

    2) What do you think about this ?
Presented methods, which allow people to be more creative are very good. From me I can add one more thing. If you are working at some poroblem and you can figure how to resolve it, you should get some people who could help you and talk to the about it, create brain-storm. It should help you to fill your brain with new ideas and solutions.

  5. As it appears to me, nowadays, creativity is one of the most important traits. Every day, millions of people come up with unbelievable ideas and then, they earn enormous amounts of money. This is what the employers look for- creativity. I believe that, on the one hand, creativity is something that some of us are born with, but on the other hand, we should remember that there are no such things on which we cannot work. Everything can get better, even our ability to think creatively. In my opinion, everything mentioned I the presentation is crucial for us to learn to let ourselves be creative. What is more, I totally agree with Pablo Picasso’s words that you mentioned- everyone has a potential to end up successfully, whereas not everyone is able and willing to use it. And we should really try our best to kill the barriers, diminish the noise that surrounds us while we are working and look for inspiration which sometimes happens to turn out to be a blessing for us. Especially when we try to complete a task and have no idea for the solution, we do need find something inspiring and a couple of seconds later we come up with one thousand ideas. We can search for inspiration on the internet, in books, newspapers or even in music. Concluding, creativity is something indispensable in today’s world and we should remember about it while going through the life.

  6. Hmmmm, very interesting topic. I hope this is not as tricky as i think because my comment will not be as superb creative as the article says :) :) :) but definitely i can say, the creativity is something that we should look for everyday in our life, we should look for inspirations to develope our imagination, and try to think out of box. I would like to add something to that, it is connected with our human nature or maybe nationallity :) Why are we all so ignorant? my hurt burns and i suffer ( oh my god.. ) when i see , most of people are soo sooooo listless to any other people. We can't find anything positive in other human being... why is that? The most priceless thing is when a man can stand tall and say it out loud pointing at any random person in the crowd "THIS MAN IS AWESOME", because we don't need to know each other so good to say that. But you get the idea! what i'm trying to say is, that we are afraid of telling someone that he is better than we are in some area of Life. This is why most of people are not creative, because they are ignorants, and they can't accept the fact that there is someone better or anything better than they are. We have our minds blocked from getting the inspiration from any other person or phenomenon or anything that surrounds us. I must say, your article is really ok and we all know what "creative" means, but we don't know what's the problem of us not being creative. The one problem i have mentioned is just one from thousands. Please people, open your eyes, look at your friends and think about them as a beautiful individuals, they're all hiding something beautiful in their hearts, but they won't tell you, because they are afraid. We are not creative because we are too blind to seek the inspiration. So this is the future ? We have robots and things... Yup, we are definitely the robots.

  7. I am a graphic designer, so my job requires from me to be creative. Also, the university at which I studied and my current university required creativity from their students (before I studied at ASP and now I am doing new media studies at PJWSTK).
The only problem I have with creativity is that often I have too many projects to do and I am simply too tired to think creative. My solution for this problem is to take a short rest and relax :)
